ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH, TRAINING AND ASSISTANCE WIXÁRICA A.C. - BACKGROUND OF THE INSTITUTION.

The roots of our Association are found in the experience of its founder, Mrs. Rocío Echevarría Ortiz, when she came into contact with the Wixárica People in 1972 as General Nurse in charge of the Tatei Kie Health Center (San Andrés Cohamiáta, Municipality de Mezquitic, Jalisco). In what was called the HUICOT Plan, a project of the Federal Government that opened the borders of the indigenous territory to send them services from the Jalisco Health Secretariats. His stay in the community lasted six years. Later, he founded the Huichol Health House Hostel in 1983, in response to a request for support from the Wixáricas Traditional Authorities. Then, in 1985, the Association for Research, Training and Assistance Wixárica, A.C., was created in order to provide legal coverage to the shelter.

- OBJECTIVE. Our objective is to support the Wixáricas indigenous patients of the 5 main communities located in the north of the state of Jalisco: Tatei-Kie (San Andrés Cohamiáta), Tsikuita (San Miguel Hueixtita), Tuapurie (Santa Catarina), Waútia (San Sebastián) Kuruxi Manuwe (Tuxpan de Bolaños)

Their patients are previously diagnosed in the Rural Health Centers of the Ministry of Health and sent to the second and third level health services located in the Guadalajara and Zapopan metropolitan area.

CASA HUICHOL A.C. is aimed at providing the means and resources that contribute to improving the health of the patient. - MISSION. Participate with the social, public and private sectors in the production and development of means and actions in favor of the integral health and cultural preservation of the Wixárica People, for which we remain in an apolitical and secular position. -FUTURE VIEW. To be a professional organization that develops, promotes and supports research, training and social assistance actions to preserve the life, identity and culture of the Wixárica People, in alliance with its Traditional Authorities. - POPULATION THAT SERVES. General population (Children, youth, adults and the elderly) Wixaric indigenous people with diseases of the second and third level of health, such as high-risk pregnancies, children with cleft lip for reconstructive surgery, patients with kidney failure, heart disease, cancer, malnutrition, specialty orthopedic for accidents, etc. - SERVICES OFFERED. • 3 general rooms with 32 beds with orthopedic positions. • Support for clothing • Surveillance by Wixáricas (Huicholes) Topiles for emergencies and disorders. • Transportation service to transfer them to hospital appointments. • Food, 3 meals a day are offered; (breakfast, lunch and dinner) we have traditional cuisine and urban cuisine with water filters. • Urban Garden Service where some of the food that is cooked is planted and harvested. • Participatory Workshop of Wixárica Art and Crafts, where the pieces of art that the relatives of the sick make as extra support for their economy are exhibited.
